Swedish rap-metallers CLAWFINGER have finished writing 10 new songs and have another 3-4 that are half ready, according to the latest posting by band vocalist Zak Tell, “but we need at least 10 more songs before we have enough material to choose from in order to make sure that it's a top quality album that we release.” The as-yet-untitled effort is currently being conceived at a recording studio the band purchased in conjunction with fellow Swedes MESHUGGAH, and is tentatively due to be issued in late 2002/early 2003.
In other news, Tell and his girlfriend welcomed a baby boy named Felix on March 19th, and experience that the frontman insists has changed him completely.
“I have never experienced such a great feeling of satisfaction, happiness and responsibility,” the singer stated. “All of a sudden, my priorities have changed, and my main concern is to make sure he gets all the love and security he needs in order to become a secure and open-minded individual. Being a dad has totally rocked my world and life will never be the same again…thank God! As a result of this great happening, I have not had the time, lust or energy to also be in the studio, so the other guys have been working without me for the last five weeks, which of course has slowed things down a bit, but there's a time and a place for everything, and right now, my place is at home and my time is for Felix.”
Also on the CLAWFINGER front, the band have issued a collective statement about the recent passing of ALICE IN CHAINS frontman Layne Staley, with whom CLAWFINGER toured during the early '90s. The statement reads as follows:
“ALICE IN CHAINS were the first band we ever toured in Europe with back in 1993 and they were the one band that all of us in CLAWFINGER loved and adored! Their music was honest and heartfelt and not many other bands were as truthful, beautiful and painful all at the same time, Layne will be missed but remembered for the great music he created together with the rest of the band! Most of all they were just sweet, down-to-earth guys who treated us like friends. Thanx for the best start we could get in this twisted rock'n'roll business! Good luck with all things to come guys & Layne we hope that you're happy wherever you are! Respect & Admiration! Zak & the Claws!”
